The Best Products to Sell on eBay

So just what are the best products to sell on eBay? Well, that’s a tough question. It’s like asking what are the best gift to give someone for Christmas? The answer of course varies from person to person, from situation to situation.

In general though, the best stuff to sell on eBay is the stuff you have lying around the house or in the attic that you no longer need, or will need in the future. That can be an old lamp, so used sneakers, clothing, toys like legos and GI Joes, jewelry like watches and bracelets and even electronic items like radio and TVs, especially the vintage older models which are always in demand.

Again, and you’ve heard it many times before but it bears repeating, your trash in someone else’s treasure, and that motto goes to the heart and soul of eBay. The stuff you no longer want is more often than not wanted for some unknown reason by someone else living halfway around the country. Why they want your trash is not of your concern, but what should be is getting that “trash” listed so those people looking for it can find it, then buy it.

If you don’t have a lot of vintage, rare stuff or old items to sell but you want to put up some extra items maybe you have in inventory, you can check out the latest eBay trends to see what’s hot at any moment. Usually during the Holiday season it will no doubt be video games like the Xbox 360 and Playstation systems along with digital cameras, laptops, ipods and iphones like it is now. But collectibles are always good sellers are as things like handbags.

A few things I would try not to sell or avoid on eBay include cars, suits, pets (can you even sell them?) or basically anything that you really need to see, feel and test before you can make an informed purchase. I also try to avoid bulky items like furniture and appliances, but that’s just me.

A couple simple and easy eBay tips and tricks when listing items do come to mind. When I list an item I usually try to have it finish either Sunday or Monday evening around 9-10pm ET. The idea being those nights often have the most people online at any one single time vs. the rest of the week. I admit, though, I don’t have any empirical evidence supporting that, but it’s just a hunch I go on and I do notice that I get higher final prices on those nights than others.

That said I would also avoid having listings end early in the morning or in the middle of the night, when the fewest people figure to be online. You can give a try to ending during the business day, but your mileage may vary. The goal of any auction is to sell you product at the highest price, and the more people looking and bidding on your item the higher your final price should be. And when would people mostly likely put a bid up? When they wake up? While at work? Or after dinner?

I also like to use a 5-day listing just to again get maximum eyeballs on your item. If you have a hot item like an Apple iPhone you can go opt to go shorter since many, many people are shopping for that product or you can go longer if you think your item is pretty obscure.

And if you do have some vintage or hot items that won’t lose value anytime soon, the best time to sell them could very well be right now as we approach the heart of the Christmas shopping season, which is also the time when the most people are on eBay (again, we want to sell our items when the most people are online). So if you can wait, don’t sell it in June or July when the online traffic is at a low, but rather in November/December when eBay is at its highpoint.

Conversely, if you are looking to buy the best time to do would like at 4am ET on a Friday night in July, but then again I wonder what kind of stuff you could get at the time?
