Measuring Your Dog or Cat for a Pet Door

by Staff
Apr.27, 2008 in Home

A pet door must be the proper size for your pet and measuring is key — how wide, how tall, and how far off the ground the door should be.

A door that is to small can cause hair loss or other injuries, and a door that is to big could be a problem for small pets trying to open it. Be aware that if your pet is not fully grown, they will get bigger.

Measure your pet’s width across the widest point (shoulders), then measure your pet’s height from the floor to the top of their shoulders.

Use your height measurement to install the door high enough to be comfortable for your pet. Your pet should not have to stoop to get through, or jump through. Always error on the side of too big for a pet door rather than too small.
